Back in the 19th century when the Austro-Hungarian Empire laid claim to the Veneto region of Italy, soldiers thought Italian wines to be too strong in taste, and subsequently “spritzed” (“to splash” in German) their glasses with water to dilute the flavour.
Travel forward to 1919 and after many years of experimenting, the Barbieri brothers finally reach the perfect blend of ingredients and create the famous Aperol in the Italian city of Padua. A bitter aperitif that would reach its peak amongst Paduan society in the 1950’s, as chic fashion and gastronomic delicacies quickly invaded the Italian streets.
Over 100 years later and now part of the internationally renowned Campari Group, Aperol has become the perfect aperitivo worldwide to set the mood for an unforgettable occasion.

At Subi Spritz, we are committed to enjoying the treasured ritual of aperitivo. Which is why we’ve partnered with Aperol Spritz once again to create the “Aperitivo Trail”.
Throughout the 10 days and nights of Subi Spritz, let the Aperitivo Trail guide you as you visit some of Subi’s best bars and sip on their take of the famous zesty orange cocktail. Venues like Golden West, Little Things, Lums and Subi Hotel will be part of the trail, adding their flair to the one of the oldest Southern European traditions from the 8-17 March.
Dance to the sounds of the Med
Bar Banter spills into the streets of Subiaco to continue celebrating one of Italy’s best exports with the ultimate laneway party. Following their hugely popular Laneway Margarita Fest, Bar Banter is bringing in food stalls and DJs for two evenings of spritz-tastic fun. Round up your friends and head down to Bar Banter both 8 and 9 of March to kick off Subi Spritz 2024 dancing as the sun sets, Aperol Spritz in hand.

Settle in for a chilled afternoon in Golden West’s sun-soaked beer garden. On Saturday 16 March, we’ll be blending craft beer vibes with the most refreshing Spritz cocktails, all whilst listening to live acoustic music.
